Abstract

Poetry is an expression of the author's heart, reflecting their life through beautiful writing. The poem "But" by Sutardji Calzoum Bachri is a literary work that conveys the author's thoughts and the challenges of life. The study of poetry can be approached from various perspectives, one of which is a structural approach. This research aims to explore and understand the poetry of Sutardji Calzoum Bachri in detail. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method, which presents data objectively by analyzing the poetry. In this case, the structures that constitute poetry are divided into the physical structure and the inner structure. The physical structure includes poetic form, diction, concrete words, language style, and imagery. Meanwhile, the inner structure comprises theme, tone, atmosphere, and message. These two structures are the essential elements that form poetry.
